FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, Tuesday conferred the President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, with the Honorary Citizenship of Abuja. The Ghanaian President arrived Abuja to pay a courtesy visit to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian Head of State.
Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, after his flight touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 1430 hours Nigerian time.
Presenting the Key to the City of Abuja to the Ghanaian President in a brief ceremony at the Airport, the FCT Minister declared, “On behalf of the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammad Buhari and the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, I welcome you to Abuja our Capital City and the symbol of our national unity.”
The presentation which confers honorary citizenship to a respected guest is testament to Nigeria’s respect for Ghana and the cordial relationship between Nigerians and the people of the Republic of Ghana.
Prior to the presentation, Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo inspected a guard of honour mounted by officers and men of the Brigade of Guards of the Nigerian Army against the drumbeats and funfare of the Abuja Cultural troupe.
Nana Akufo-Addo, is on his third visit to Nigeria since he was sworn in as President of Ghana in January this year.
