FCTA Raises Committee to Settle Cooperative Society Crisis

FCT-Minister-448x336The FCT Administration has set up a seven member high-powered
committee of technocrats to look into the crisis currently bedeviling
the Joint Federal Staff Cooperative Thrift and Loans Society (JFSCTS).

The FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye inaugurated this
committee after meeting the warring factions Friday in his office, at
Area 11, Garki I District, Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary charged the members of the committee to come
up with appropriate recommendations that would bring the crisis to an
amicable end.

According to him, the terms of reference of the committee include, the
investigation of the activities and financial transactions of the
first executive of the cooperative society and look into everything it
has done to date and make recommendations.

Dr. Ajakaiye enjoined the committee to also investigate the process of
change that led to the emergence of the second executive and determine
whether it was properly done and make adequate recommendations.

“This Committee is to investigate thoroughly the state of the affairs
in the office of the Chief Registrar of Cooperatives in the FCT and
make appropriate recommendations,” he added.

The Permanent Secretary told the committee to also look into any other
area in the activities of the cooperative where it deems fit.

Dr. Ajakaiye reminded the warring factions that a cooperative society
is an autonomous association of people united voluntarily to meet
their common economic, welfare and cultural needs and aspirations,
through a jointly owned and democratically controlled business.

The committee that has one month to complete its assignment has the
FCT Solicitor-General, Barrister Yusuf Hulegi Wodi as Chairman and Mr.
Udo Samuel Atang, Director in the office of the Permanent Secretary
will serve as Secretary. Others members include the FCT Director of
Establishment & Training; FCT Director of Audit; FCT Director of
Security; Director Human Resources Management, Federal Ministry of
Information and a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices
and other related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Responding, the Chairman of the committee and FCT Solicitor-General,
Barrister Yusuf Hulegi Wodi who spoke on behalf of the members thanked
the Permanent Secretary for finding them worthy to undertake the
assignment.

Barrister Wodi promised to discharge the responsibility without any
fear or favour; assuring to approach the assignment with all the
seriousness it deserves in order to bring the crisis to an end.

The cooperative society has branches in almost all the Federal
Ministries, NPC, OAGF and many other Agencies of the Federal
Government.
