A Professor with the University of Maiduguri and a child were among the six people killed when suicide bombers hit a mosque at the institution during early Monday morning Islamic prayers, Subhi, around 5am.
The dead include the two female suicide bombers, who detonated their bombs at the Gate 1 and 5. The mosque is located near Gate 1 of the institution.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials confirmed the incident in a tweet. The injured are receiving treatment while rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing.

“There was twin suicide attacks in a mosque situated close to professors’ quarters, north of the University of Maiduguri this morning, scores were killed including two professors, students and staff”, a source said, noting that the two suicide bombers were women.
Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) and the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Ahmed Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
The bombings bear the imprint of the Boko Haram sect.
