A London High Court has ordered the release of former Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori from prison. The court ruled that the Home office could no longer hold the jailed former governor. Ibori completed a 13- year sentence and was released Wednesday morning from a London prison.
Presiding Judge, Mrs Justice May, ruled that the UK Home office cannot further hold him and ordered his immediate release.
The Home office had requested to further detain him as his assets confiscation hearing had not been concluded.
The ruling followed an emergency appeal filed by Ibori to enforce his rights.
Both parties are expected back in court in January while Ibori is expected to remain in his London residence and is to report to the police once weekly.
