Excitement is building up in Keffi, a vibrant town in Nasarawa State as youths prepare to host one of their own. The former Clerk of the National Assembly, Dr Salisu Abubakar Maikasua is to be honoured for successfully completing his tenure as the Clerk of the National Assembly.
The grand reception will be held at the premises of the Nasrawa State University, Keffi, on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
The event described as a special treat for the former CNA will be attended by the Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, former Nasarawa State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Adamu, Chairman Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, Former Works Minister, Dr. Hassan Muhammad Lawal, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, Vice Chancellor Nasarawa State University, and the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Muhammad Chindo Yamusa III.
Dr. Maikasuwa came to limelight due to his passion for professionalism, and quality work, before he recently retired as the Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA). He combined humility and integrity to reach the highest position of his career. It is on record that despite constraints and challenges, Dr. Maikasuwa’s administrative revolution has stood out as a lasting legacy at the National Assembly where among others he successfully introduced an admirable work ethics and a capacity-building training programme which is the envy of several institutions in this country. This, has no doubt, contributed immensely to the development and progress so far recorded at the National Assembly.
Dr. Maikasuwa’s bias for professionalism and technical ability helped him to establish an efficient administration at the Assembly’s bureaucracy where competent people were duly recognised and allowed to implement result-oriented policies which raised workers morale and increased productivity. Maikasuwa’s principled apolitical stance, sincerity of purpose and neutrality paved the way for his team to strictly adhered to the provisions of rule of law, due process, fairness, justice, procurement act and public service rules in all his activities in line with his policy that service to God and humanity is the ultimate issue for formidable leaders.
Whenever duty calls as a patriotic citizen, one may perhaps have no other option than to sacrifies your time and sometimes even your resources for a just cause. This writer believes that this would perhaps eventually be the spirit that would encourage an apolitical and quiet technocrat Dr. Maikasuwa to possibly represent his own people at any level that he may be called upon to do so in future. It is a fact that Maikasuwa is not a politician and has never showed an interest whatsoever of becoming one. But he is also a person who will certainly not refuse to accede to the request of his own people whenever the need arises for him to do so at the appropriate time.
Though Dr. Maikasuwa frowns at attempts made to publicize his humanitarian activities, the age long assistance he had been rendering to people especially the youths and students has remain a public knowledge. Moreover, this writer believes that Maikasuwa’s antecedents and pi-degree will not allow him to hide for too long as our present political and social dispensation changes rapidly especially due to the high expectations of his politically active people. The elders say “the goldfish has no hiding place”.
Maikasuwa is an embodiment of patience just as he is also an epitome of wisdom and integrity. Not once has this writer seen him got angry in my many years of acquaintance with him. And he does not bear grudge against people. If he is not happy with you or your actions, he will certainly tell you straight to your face. He will never allow the day to end with any bitterness in his heart. Though at most times smiling, he is a disciplined individual. That is Maikasuwa for you, a wonderful man, an enigma of sort. You can imagine his efforts for the progress of the people especially his community.
