2019: Obasanjo Wants Igbo President for Nigeria, Says Injustice, Marginalisation Triggers for Ethnic Conflict

Posted on by admin

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for the South-east geo-political zone to be allowed to have a shot at the presidency. The criminally marginalised zone has not produced a president since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

Obasanjo, who spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said giving the Southeast a chance to produce a president would address the injustice and imbalance in the federal structure which has been the basis for the agitations for self determination on the part of the Igbo.
The zone has been the hotbed of agitation against political and infrastructural marginalisation. While the South-west, North and the South-south geo-political zones had produced presidents of Nigeria at different times, only the southeast zone is yet to taste the presidency with tales of woes in terms of federal appointments, dilapidated federal infrastructure in the zone and recent mass murders of Biafra agitators by federal troops.
Obasanjo said injustice and marginalisation were the triggers of  conflict along ethnic and regional lines.

Obasanjo

He said his desire for a just and fair country informed his efforts towards the emergence of a president from the South-south geo-political zone of the country in 2011 .
He said it was his personal conviction that the South-east should be giving a chance to lead the nation.
“Irrespective of the thinking of the people ahead of 2019, I personally think that South-east should have a go at the Presidency too”, he said.

“The same is happening here. If Ijebu and Egba have produced the Governor, it is only fair and just to allow the Yewa or Ogun West to also produce governor. Or else, one day, they will also stand up and take up arms against this injustice against them. That is my personally position on this,” the ex- President said.

As usual, when others mess up the public space, Ndigbo are “allowed” to come and clean it up. We then hound them out of office with baseless charges until it is time to clean up another mess. Well, clean up your own mess.

Keep your presidency. We don’t need it.

Psychologists and critical thinkers are welcome to assess our ex President Olusegun Obasanjo’s body language to help us determine if he meant what he said or not.

From my perspective South Easterners at this point in time will determine when to critically analyze situations without making costly mistakes.

It is crystal clear that the next Presidential bid is zoned to South Easterners. Let us say thanks and no thanks to Obasanjo.
