Plot To Remove Benue Deputy Gov Thickens

Posted on by admin

benue deputy govThere are strong indications that members of the Benue State House of Assembly have concluded plans to impeach the Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu. Checks have shown
that the Benue House of Assembly (BNHOA) has begun moves geared towards
impeaching Abounu who was alleged to have connived with his son, Dr.
Abounu Abounu to cause a thorough investigations into activities of the
assembly by anti-graft agencies .
It was also gathered that the impeachment plot was coming at the heels of
the recent detention of the Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, and other principal
officers of the House based on the petition.
The lawmakers saw that act as a direct exercise of mischief, betrayal and
distrust orchestrated by the deputy governor consequent upon which they
have concluded plans to humiliate the state’s number two citizen out of
office. They believed Abounu must have blessed his son’s actions and
actually furnished him with some details to that effect.
A source knowledgeable enough about the plot said the plan was hatched
during an emergency evil gathering of the lawmakers, which took place at
the Benue Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
Already, pointblanknews.com underatands that not fewer than 20 members had
so far signed the notice of impeachment while 10 more members are
currrrently pressured to endorse the act in order to secure the required
two-third majority. After all that, the Clerk would be mandated to serve
the notice on the deputy governor.
The impeachment plot was believed to have been sponsored by aggrieved
members that were recently detained for alleged involvement in a
N750million cars procurement scandal.
Meanwhile, a public affairs commentator and labour activist, Com.
Kwamande Kwamande Isaac has expressed concern over the development,
asking while the father could be made to bear such heat arising from the
consequences of his son’s conduct.
“Initially I thought that plans by the BNHOA to impeach the Deputy Gov of
Benue state Engr Benson Abounu was a ruse to divert attention from their
EFCC ordeal but events seem to be pointing towards that direction. The
impeachment plot was reported widely that the plan to impeach him is
because he may have connived with his son Dr Abounu to invite the anti
graft body into the serial corruption allegations against the state
assembly. Can the ‘sins’ of the son be visited on his father?”, he
stressed.
“It is even speculated that signatures have been collected from 20 members
so far to execute this plot. It would be one of their greatest undoing if
they attempt to impeach the deputy governor because the sword of damocles
will now be hanging on their heads.they should face their problems and
leave the man out of their evil plans. They would be telling the world
clearly that they are guilty of the issues brought before the EFCC.
According to hI’m: “Something tells me that they are only acting a script
while the main masquerade is still hiding his face”.
He called on Governor Samuel Ortom to live by his words that, ‘if you chop
money, money will chop you’.
The House is dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with
15 members, while the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has
14 and Labour Party has one. Eighteen House members, including the deputy
speaker, Hon. James Okefe.
Others were: Rt. Hon. Joseph Ojobo (Ogbadibo, PDP), Rt. Hon. Adoga Onah
